Hello, and welcome! My name is Nicole Havelka, and I have been working professionally in the Southeast North Carolina perinatal care system for over a decade. Whether you are just starting to consider pregnancy or you are well on your way to meeting your newest family member, I am confident that I can provide your family with a unique style of support and care throughout your childbearing year. 10+ years of experience as a trained doula, 5 years as a midwifery apprentice in the community birth setting and a rigorous MEAC accredited education through National Midwifery Institute have prepared me to support your family in understanding your options, making confident decisions regarding your care, and pursuing your birthing intentions and goals.
As a Certified Professional Midwife credentialed by the North American Registry of Midwives, I utilize my midwifery training and expertise in low risk, normal pregnancy and birth to support all clients. I practice the Midwives Model of Care™, which is a fundamentally different approach to pregnancy and childbirth than experienced in contemporary obstetrics. Midwifery care is holistic, individualized, hands-on care before, during, and after birth. Midwives are healthcare professionals specializing in pregnancy and childbirth who develop a trusting relationship with their clients. Midwives are trained to provide comprehensive prenatal care and education, guide labor and birth, address complications, and care for newborns. The application of this model has been proven to reduce the incidence of birth injury, trauma, and cesarean section. The tenets of the Midwives Model of Care™ are:
- monitoring and supporting the physical, psychological and social well-being of the birthing person throughout the childbearing cycle
- providing the birthing person with individualized education, counseling, and prenatal care, continuous hands-on assistance during labor and delivery, and postpartum support
- minimizing technological interventions
- identifying and referring birthing people who require obstetrical attention
I am committed to providing equitable support and care to all families interested in working with me, including single and partnered parents, LGBTQ+ families, families of color, neurodiverse families, and families with diverse physical abilities. I offer a sliding scale fee and payment plan for some services, and welcome open communication about a family’s individualized capacity and needs.
